We all have those friends that can seemingly eat and drink whatever they please, barely have a skincare routine yet have the most perfect, pore free skin, right? I narrow that down to damn good genes and set their luck aside. Unfortunately this isn’t the case for all of us out there, it can feel like a never ending hamster wheel trying to find what works, what doesn't, falling for products and finding THE products that have truly made a difference. Through our worlds on-going obsession with beauty and the age of Instagrams see-want-buy marketing, there is no shortage of new products continually inundating us every corner we turn. Unfortunately not all of them will do anything particularly good for your skin.
One things for sure, your skincare routine should be tailored to what works for Y O U. If you’re new to the world of skincare, the best place to start is at the beginning, by defining your skin type, dry, oily, combination etc.. From there the skies the limit. I say to define what works for you and keep it as simple as you can. If your skin is good and you’re happy about it, there is no point adding new products, wasting money and stressing over trying to implement a routine that isn’t necessary for you.
Before we delve into some of my favourite products, I would just like to preface and say a few things… Firstly, there is no one thing that works for everyone, you have to find what works for you through your own trial and error. Secondly, I am in no way a dermatologist, although I have been professionally trained in skincare products & their efficacy through previous employment. And lastly this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to skincare, skin health is like a tree with any branches, your overall body health, genetic predisposition, stress, diet, sleep, exercise, climate and pollution exposure amongst other things also greatly influence your skins health and appearance.
From left to right:
Aesop: Damascan Rose Facial Treatment. This is a wonderful, vitamin rich Bulgarin rose oil, extremely hydrating for super dry skin. Works well as a night treatment when you want something uber nourishing
La Mer: Créme De La Mer Moisturising Cream. Undoubtedly the best moisturiser out there, incredibly rich and hydrating it is made from algae (seaweed extract) giving it incredible healing properties also. Any hint of dryness, redness or even burnt skin La Mer will heal all.
Avéne: Eau Thermale. This is thermal spring water spray. Super duper cooling and calming for the skin. Great way to wash your face if your skin is very sensitive.
NUXE: Huile prodigieuse riche. A French pharmacy staple, this is a wonderful multi-purpose body oil. It nourishes dry skin and hair and is gentle enough to be used all over your face too. The blend of the botanical oils inside make it a wonderfully lustrous hydrating and softly scented product. I never ever travel with out it by my side.
From left to right:
COSRX: Blackhead Power Liquid. Containing 4% natural BHA component which gently eliminates blackheads and dead skin cells. Niacinamide allows tackling dark spots caused by acne and hyper-pigmentation. Not for daily use, but here and there it works well.
The Ordinary: Salicylic Acid 2%. Despite DECIEMs recent politics, the products still remain unchanged. Affordable and well working, the salicylic acid exfoliates inside pores to fight the appearance of blemishes... Skin clarity!
ClindaTech: Acne Treatment Topical Solution. Now this is for those acne sufferers, it is a prescription only products as it contains active clindamycin hydrochloride 1%. Great for clearing up blemishes, a stronger product and not needed if your skin isn’t blemish prone.
La Roche-Posay: Effaclar Duo (+). An OTC French classic, Effaclar Duo is the spot treatment of dreams, containing a whole cocktail of active ingredients, it’s an easy application and works a treat.
Caudalié: Eau De Beauté. A.k.a The Youth Elixir, known as the beauty enhancing mist, it sets makeup and brings an instant uplift, giving skin radiance. A handbag essential.
Dinosaur Designs: One of my favourite Australian brands DD are the masters of resin. This piece I have purposed for my jewellery box, its a ergonomic oval egg shape. Love.
A313: The new avibon, a.k.a pure vitamin A pommade. Its French Pharmacy OTC retinol cream that resurfaces and retextures your skin to smooth, clear, glowing perfection. Amazing for smoothing out skin, be sure to allow your face to dry for 20 or so minutes before applying, it works best when using overnight and clearing off in the morning. It is very powerful and 100% works, I would suggest to work your way up to it. Miracle. Product.
Dr. Jart+: Soothing Hydra Solution. A goopy, sticky sheet mask that rehydrates lifeless skin, made from cellulose the mask soothes, and calms, sensitive, irritated & dehydrated skin. I always bring a couple of these along when travelling. Pop them on on the plane!
Again, a plethora of products. This is one of my skin-care cupboards in Australia
